DON’T WAIT FOR CLOSURE
Hi friend,
A number of years ago, one of my closest relationships fell apart. Even today, I’m not completely sure what happened. It was someone I loved and trusted. I had invested so much into them and the friendship. Then, almost overnight, it seemed as though they became a different person.
Things were said that couldn’t be unsaid. And I knew the relationship could never go back to how it had been. It was painful.
I questioned myself, my words, my attitudes and actions, my ability to discern. I also had regrets for things I should have said and done. We parted ways. And still now, years later, there has never been closure. I hold no bitterness or bad feelings towards them. I even pray for them. But it would have been helpful to have had some resolution. An apology. An explanation. Validation. Clarification. And so I moved on. And so must you. Because you will face a situation like this one day. Maybe you already have. Here’s what you need to remember:
Other people cannot forfeit your destiny. Not even the enemy cannot hinder God’s plans for you. BUT YOU CAN – by how you handle your heart in moments like these. So pray for more grace. Grace for yourself and your own weakness and vulnerability. And grace for the people who wounded you. Grace upon grace. Grace to keep your heart clean and pure. Grace to keep your spirit soft and tender. Grace to love and be loved. Grace to move forward into the incredible future the Father has planned for you. You might not get closure or resolution. But you are being offered something better. The confidence of knowing the favor of God because of how you have handled your heart with honor, dignity, courage, and respect in the face of loss, rejection, and hurt. It’s one thing to trust God. It’s another to know that He can trust you. It’s especially in these difficult and painful events, when we are tested, that what’s growing inside our hearts comes out. I pray the encouragement below blesses you.

DON’T WAIT FOR CLOSURE
Often seasons end in what seems like an unfinished way. There is a sense of what could have been or what should have been. You won’t always get the closure you desire. You have to deal with unresolved issues, remorse, regrets, grief, things you could have said or should have done. Let go of hurts and offense. Don’t get bogged down in bitterness and unforgiveness. Release yourself from blame or self-punishment. Then get ready to embrace the next season. The Father has so much more for you. Don’t permit old wounds to keep you out of a glorious future.
Sometimes you can have closure or advancement – but not both. You can have resolution or the change you’ve longed for – but not both. Choose today – I will move forward.
I will trust the LORD to deal with ‘unfinished business’. I leave the ‘loose ends’ behind.
I’m not waiting on explanations or apologies. My life is too short, and my calling is too great to live looking backward. I will not dwell on what I cannot change. I will not let my heart grow hard.
My God is able to heal, restore, make restitution, and bring recompense. I will see the goodness of the LORD in every area and aspect of my future. I DON’T NEED TO WAIT FOR CLOSURE.
One thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:13-14)
Excellent article! Right on target.
